AN HEIRLOOM FOR US

At the Mercat del Encants in Barcelona, Spain, I searched for a curious object. I looked for a piece I couldn’t discern the function of at first glance so that its evolution wouldn’t be forced. I took home an oil lamp engraved with an occasion, year, and location: Noces D'Argent Palma 1976 - meaning Fiftieth Anniversary Palma, Spain 1976. Traditionally, an heirloom is passed down from generation to generation in its given, original form. A celebration of love, I transformed the gift into a new kind of heirloom; a set of toys for the generations which descended from this marriage: a bell, a spinning top, and a magnifying glass.
