SHE SEAS
ABOUT

She Seas is a motion media piece that delves into the portrayal of women’s relationship with the ocean in popular media throughout the last two centuries. Women have been characterized by having an emotional, or even spiritual connection with water in literature, film, and art. The circulation of these images and words has hindered women's ability to be seen as a being who can harness the ocean’s resources in the ways which man is continually exhibited doing.

PROJECT GOALS

By utilizing photographs clipped from National Geographic magazines, spanning the years of 1990 to 2019, She Seas speaks directly to the source of the perpetuated idea that women are of the ocean but not for the ocean which continues to exclude them from oceanic industries.
